Marcel Maessen won the Cole Petang Grand Prix in Luxembourg on Saturday. The German was ahead of the French Joshua Dubau and Fabien Dube on New Year’s Day. In the women’s race, Christine Magirus won, with Dutchman Manon Bakker taking second place.
Most of the cyclo-cross toppers went to Baal on New Years Day to race the Grand Prix Sven Nys, but a cyclo-cross race was also scheduled in Luxembourg. In the men’s race there were a few top-tier riders at the start and at the end Meisen seemed to have better legs. The German champion referred Dubau and Dube to the most thankful places.
It’s for the 32-year-old, who has been playing for Germany’s continental Stevens squad since the New Year, his third win of this cyclocross season. Meisen previously won with a cross pass at Lützelbach in Germany and Ciclocross del Ponte Fae’ di Oderzo in Italy.
In the women’s race, the victory went to Christine Magirus. It turns out that the 34-year-old Luxemburger was too strong for Dutchman Manon Bakker. Number three in today’s result was the still 16-year-old Belgian Xaydee Van Sinaey, more than two minutes behind winner Majerus. Joyce Vanderbken came sixth, and Elodie Kuiper crossed the finish line in eighth.
