About 90% of Moroccans consider religion an essential part of their lives. Palestine and Jordan come in second and third place, and Iraq comes in fourth place.

When it comes to daily prayer, Morocco ranks fourth in the region. More than 70% of Moroccans say they pray daily. Outside the MENA region, Indonesia had the highest rates of all 120 countries surveyed, with 98% of residents considering religion important and 95% praying daily.

The Pew Research Center’s findings are consistent with a survey conducted by the German statistical platform Statista, which was conducted between April 2022 and March 2023. The study also highlighted the strength of religiosity in Morocco, with the percentage of people who find religion important ranging from 80% to 99%. According to the Pew Research Center, “the most religious places according to these two surveys tend to be in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East and North Africa. The least religious places tend to be in Europe and East Asia.”
