This was actually the case when I was in high school, and I'm over 40 now.
I had a computer science teacher who wrote and published his own book and was very proud that every definition other than word for word from his book was memorized and left with a huge scratch on every test.*
At some point we (finally…) received practical instructions for actual programming work. The guy was completely convinced that it was impossible to display bold text on the screen using Quick-BASIC (because, my God, that was what was taught at the time…).
My response: “Really!”
His response: “Oh yeah, let's see then.”
Yes; He was already able to see it 30 meters away in the eyes of everyone in the class…
Hey; Too bad. You brought it on yourself.
I and two others were allowed to skip this chapter of practical instruction at that time.
