Once again, long lines for the very popular Kazo Camps | local

Again this year, on the first day of registration, there is already a big storm for Kazu Camps, the holiday camps of the CM Health Insurance Fund. VTM NIEUWS sat at the table with mother Mariska Bloemmaert and two nervous teenage girls: her daughter Vienna Peters and her friend Lisa van Aken.

Kazou, a subsidiary of the CM Health Insurance Fund, is the largest provider of youth camps in Flanders with around 900 camps for 43,000 children. A wide range, but not enough to meet the huge demand. For the young candidates, it's as if they're participating in the stressful annual race for a Tomorrowland ticket.

VTM NIEUWS followed Lisa Van Aken and Fienna Peeters, both 13, as they made their tense attempt to secure summer camp spots in Italy. After the countdown, they are immediately put on hold for over an hour. Last year the girls succeeded. “What you can do there is very diverse. Sometimes we go to the city, sometimes we go to the amusement park or to the swimming park. It's always nice to go on vacation with your friends alone, without your parents,” Vienna has already begun to dream.

But Mariska Blommaert, Vienna's mother, already expects things could get worse. “That's a shame, because you should really be able to give everyone the opportunity to do that.” Everyone gets just one link, to make everything as fair as possible. Lisa's mother also has one and is in remote contact with the three ladies behind their laptop. But unfortunately, Italy is already full when it's Lisa and Vienna's turn. The disappointment is huge. “Especially because it was so much fun last year and then you're looking forward to such a great holiday again,” Lisa concluded.
