Pete Sampras finally passed: Novak Djokovic writes tennis history with final in Paris | Tennis

TennisThe Masters 1000 in Paris Bercy (2,603,700 euros) will have a final match between the first and second world numbers. After Novak Djokovic (ATP-1) beat Hubert Hurkacz (ATP-10) 3-6 6-0 7-6 (7/5), Daniil Medvedev (ATP-2) got two semi-finalists 6. 2 – Rafeeq Alexander Zverev (ATP-4). Thus ends the year Djokovic as the No. 1 in the world. He is the first tennis player to do so for the seventh time, leaving Pete Sampras (six times) behind.

Djokovic recovered strongly after losing the first set 6-3 due to a fracture. He won six consecutive matches in the second set, and also started the third set with a victory in the first half. In 2-1 he broke the Polish No. 10 in the world, but Hurkacz again fought 4-4. The Pole escaped match point on his serve, but had to bend in the tiebreak against the Serb, who scored his second match point.

In the final in Paris, Djokovic will meet Daniil Medvedev, who dealt with Alexander Zverev 6-2, 6-2. The semi-final between Medvedev and Zverev was a repeat of last year’s final. Then the Russian won in three sets. This time Zverev didn’t have much to say. In the first set 2-2, Medvedev broke it for the first time and then did it again. In the second set, he quickly went out to 5-1 and decided it two games later. The match lasted for an hour and twenty minutes.
