Plopsaqua permit obtained: ‘Construction can start in September’

The new swimming complex will replace the existing swimming pool “Geerdegemvaart” along the Leuven-Dijle Canal. After all, this pool is very old and will have to close its doors soon. The new project will become one of two swimming sites in Mechelen, in addition to the Neckerpool.

When designing the new swimming complex, the needs and requirements of the large number of swimming and water sports clubs were taken into account. Plopsaqua Mechelen will become their new home after the closure of the municipal swimming pool “Geerdegemvaart”.

The sports part of Plopsaqua Mechelen will contain three swimming pools. For example, there will be a 25-meter by 34-meter swimming pool with more than 15 lanes for schools and clubs. This pool has a special area for divers with a depth of 4 meters, and will be equipped with a large amphitheater for water polo and other competitions. In addition, an additional 25-meter pool and a teaching pool are provided for beginner swimmers. Therefore, swimming clubs are satisfied with the arrival of the new water park. Some of them remained in a state of frozen membership for more than five years due to lack of space.

Technopolis is also excited and looking forward to further cooperation with Plopsa. The activities of both attractions complement each other perfectly. This ensures that visitors can combine both parks.
