Pope criticizes “dangerous” German church reform

Pope Francis He expresses his concern about the synodal process in Germany in a personally signed letter to four German Catholics, including two professors of theology. In his response to a letter dated November 6, Francis emphasized that he shared their concerns about the numerous concrete steps that threaten to distance a significant part of the local Church further and further from “the common path of the universal Church.”

The full letter was published in the German newspaper on Tuesday Die Felt.

Francis encourages German Catholics to go out with greater force to meet brothers and sisters, especially those on the doorstep of our Church and those in the streets, prisons, hospitals, squares and cities. This is instead of seeking salvation “in always new committees, where the same topics are always discussed with some self-centeredness.”

We refer specifically to the process of dialogue of the synodal method between the German bishops and the laity. This led to the creation of a synod in which bishops and laity could continue their discussions on topics such as authority, the role of women, sexual morality, and priestly celibacy. “This advisory body and decision-making body cannot be reconciled with the sacred structure of the Catholic Church,” the Pope said.
