Since the earthquakes occurred at a depth of 35-40 kilometers, the authorities say there is nothing to worry about. In the main cone of the volcano, activity remains “low and irregular”. The volcano is currently emitting mainly fumes there. According to experts, numerous earthquakes indicate that the volcano on the island off the west coast of Africa will remain active for some time.

Since the Cumbre Vieja eruption on September 19, lava, which can reach temperatures of 1,300 degrees, has completely destroyed 2,750 buildings, according to the latest official estimates. More than 7,000 residents were forced to leave their homes temporarily. According to the latest data from the European Copernicus Earth Observation System, the lava covered 1,150 hectares, the equivalent of 1,600 football fields. At the end of November, 3,000 people were still trapped for fear of toxic fumes after fresh lava flowed into the sea.
