Work has begun on a new cycle track in Woluwelaan

Work has begun on a new cycle track in Woluwelaan

The eastern side of Woluwelaan will be converted into a separate two-way cycle path. This will connect the C202 Flemish cycle highway from Zaventem to the existing cycling infrastructure in the rest of the Woluwelaan area.

The project will initially be implemented as a pilot phase. The works are expected to take about 15 days. There will be another evaluation and then the bike path can be made permanent by applying for a building permit.

“The new connection provides an alternative for passengers, who can soon cycle from Zaventem to the Tram Museum in complete comfort and safety via a separate two-way cycle path,” says Mobility Minister Elke van den Brandt (Green).

During the Covid crisis, the municipality indicated that it wanted improvements to cycling infrastructure and also presented a number of concrete proposals to improve cycle paths on regional roads and to provide greater safety for pedestrians.

10 kilometers of new bike paths

Most of these proposals will now be implemented by the end of the month, and according to Cabinet, over 10km of new cycling infrastructure has been added to municipal land: including Brand Witlochlan, Brockvellan and Bull Hemanslan. .

In addition to bicycle paths on regional roads, the municipality has also built new bicycle paths on its own municipal roads, such as the entire Milan Street, but also parts of Vootstraat, Theodore De Cuyperstraat, Kerselarenlaan and Tweehuizenweg. In addition, signposted cycling routes have been created that pass directly through the municipality and complete the regional cycling network.
