There are no awards this season for De Koninklijke. Then rumors started circulating in Madrid. Zinedine Zidane is suddenly out of his place on the bench at Real Madrid. It now appears that the rumors have also been confirmed: “Zidane has decided to step down as Real Madrid coach with immediate effect,” according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Zidane – a living legend in Madrid – was in his second term as coach in the Spanish capital. He had already coached promises between 2014 and 2016, before leading the first team until 2018. It brought him three consecutive Champions League titles and two league titles. Then a year off followed, he said, the club needed to change. In 2019 he decided to take back control.
For the first time since 2010, Real Madrid did not win a single prize. In the UEFA Champions League, the semi-finals became the final destination, in their country the Copa del Rey also failed. Last weekend he lost the title to compatriot Atlético in the final round. Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois expect a new coach next season. Antonio Conte (formerly Inter) is named successor.
