Church sponsors soccer league
Registration is now open at Cheraw First Baptist Church for the 2014 Upward Soccer season for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Registration brochures are available at area schools as well as the church office on the corner of Market and Greene Street. Church office hours are 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
All practices and games will be held at the church’s Family Life Center, located at 126 Greene Street. The first practice of the season will be held January 11, with the first game scheduled Jan. 25. The awards ceremony will be held March 17.
A unique drafting system creates balanced teams, and all participants must attend one soccer evaluation. Soccer evaluations will be held on December 7, with a supplemental evaluation scheduled for December 10.
Registration cost is $50 per child with reduced rates for siblings: $40 each (2), $35 each (3), $30 each (4). Need-based scholarships are available.
Upward Sports, the world’s largest Christian sports league for children, teaches sport fundamentals in an environment of healthy competition, helping kids to develop skills for the sports arena and values for life. Upward is based on the Christian principles of having good character, integrity, respect for others and a sense of fair play. The program is designed to ease family stress by having only a one-hour practice during the week and one game each Saturday morning through early March.
