The Four Seasons Garden Club has chosen the yard of Francis and Joan Chorba at 709 North Wilson Ave., Cheraw, as Yard of the Month for May.
Joan has lived in this home for 30 years and Francis has lived here since their marriage in 2006. Francis takes care of the lawn but it is Joan who loves to work in her flower beds.
There is a large and inviting front porch with matching white rocking chairs. The newest heat tolerant red geranium sits on this porch along with a hanging basket of very colorful red and yellow million bells. The railing leading up to this porch has a beautiful scented Confederate Jasmine. Azalea bushes outline the front of the house and porch.
The center of the front lawn has a large magnolia tree surrounded by azalea bushes and just off to the side is a lamp post with a bed of gerbera daisies.
An existing flower bed along the one side was extended once a large tree was removed. Here Joan has planted a mixture of annuals and perennials, pansies, iris, daylilies, canna lilies and hostas. The newly formed section of this bed has two new trumpet plants given to Joan by her neighbor.
Another perennial bed has been placed on the opposite side running along the driveway. Joan recently planted a new yellow knock out rose bush complimenting an existing dark red knock out. Lining the driveway is delicate pink primrose. These are very special to Joan as her mother gave these to her many years ago.
This yard has been lovingly planted and nurtured through the years and the result is very charming.
