Dutch carriers KPN, VodafoneZiggo and T-Mobile are removing all valuable smartphones from their stores. They are doing so in response to a series of burglaries in Amsterdam and the surrounding area in recent weeks.

In thefts, armed criminals entered phone shops and forced employees to hand over smartphones. Telecom companies are “extremely concerned” about the situation that has arisen. “After all, the mental and physical impact of such a raid on those involved is enormous,” they said in a joint statement.
In the Amsterdam area in particular, he has been beaten repeatedly in recent weeks. KPN counted five burglaries in fifteen weeks around the capital. Last Thursday, a Vodafone store in the capital’s Bijlmerplein was victimized after a KPN branch in the same square was closed indefinitely after two robberies.
Then, on Friday evening, a Vodafone employee on his way home was forced to hand over the key to the store and the code to the safe. This theft was eventually prevented by company and police intervention. The company says the employee in question is doing “under the circumstances”.
