Peter van der Veen has been in T1 at Lommel since August, having previously been an assistant to England’s Liam Manning. Van der Veen has captained several Dutch national youth teams in the past. In 2019 he won the European Championship with Orange U-17s and reached the World Cup semi-finals. He has also worked at the Ajax Youth Academy in the past.
Now Lommel, the current No. 7 in the 1B Pro League, is leaving for personal reasons. “It has been a pleasure and a great experience to work at Lommel SK for 1.5 years,” Van der Veen said on the club’s website.
“It is now time to go back to Holland and focus on the future there. But I would like to thank all the fans, the players, the coaching staff, the club and the City Football Group (which became the owner of Lommel in May 2020). SK, ed.) Thank you so much for the support I have received.”
“Peter has put a lot of effort into his role, both as assistant coach and after transitioning into his role as our head coach in August,” said CEO Mike Green.
“His energy and enthusiasm for the game was contagious and Peter left with our sincere thanks. We wish him all the best for his future career.”
Assistant Luiz Ferreira will sit on the bench on Friday during the home game against Waasland-Beveren. The club is now looking for a new coach.
