Some 270 Palestinians were wounded in clashes with Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank. This came during anti-colonial demonstrations and during the funeral of a Palestinian youth who was martyred yesterday.
Most of the wounded were counted in the town of Beta. There are regular clashes here between the Israeli army and residents protesting against a land settlement in the area. The settlement was evacuated and guarded by the Israeli army, pending a decision by the Israeli authorities.
The Red Crescent relief agency stated that most of the Palestinians were injured by inhaling tear gas. About fifty victims were wounded by rubber bullets, while seven others were wounded by real bullets. According to the Israeli army, about 150 Palestinians threw stones and burning tires at the soldiers.
A riot also broke out at the funeral of a 20-year-old Palestinian youth in Beit Ummar today. He was shot dead by Israeli soldiers yesterday while attending another funeral.
