Anne Van Dam made her Olympic golf debut with 57th place. The 25-year-old golfer circled the fourth round at the Kasumikaseki Country Club on 77 pages and dropped two more places in the back.
Gold went to American Nelly Corda. The daughter of former Czech tennis player Peter Korda advanced to the finals in three rounds ahead of India’s Aditi Ashok and after a thrilling fourth round, Cindy defeated Ko I in a silver play – off match with 17 strokes below track average, newer than Japan’s Mone Inami and Lydia Cov.
After all the players had to go through the thunder before the final hole, Inami suddenly came up with a bird in the 17th hole with Korda. The 23-year-old American had already lost the lead at the start of his final round, but recovered well in the ‘back nine’. However, on the closed hole, the Japanese hit the ball into a bunker and finished with a bogey. Corda made no mistake and took the gold equally.
The dam required 74 strokes in the first round and circled in 78 in the second round. In the third round, he recovered with 69 strokes, but in the final round of 77, with two birds, six poses and a double bogey, he finished 57th on average 14 strokes.
