“A cancer diagnosis has a huge impact not only on the person affected, but also on their partner, family, friends and other interested parties,” explains Karma. “The dynamics of a partner relationship change (temporarily) from life companion and love partner to carer and nurturing provider. The body undergoes changes as a result of treatment, and grief is often a personal experience, which can sometimes create distance. All of this can also affect intimacy and sexuality, while these aspects can be essential for maintaining connection, comforting each other, providing support and experiencing joy in life.
