In addition, Joe Biden has failed to deliver on his many election promises. His plans for electoral reform and climate action have faltered in Congress, despite narrow majorities of Democrats in both the House and Senate. Well, the ambitious recovery plan has already been greatly curtailed in this way.
Biden admits that he did not expect such strong opposition from Republicans. “I didn’t make any big promises, but I didn’t expect such strong opposition that President Biden would not be able to achieve anything,” he says.
However, he does not give up. He says he is convinced that large parts of his economic recovery plan will eventually pass Congress and that voters will support Democrats if they are well informed.
After a year in the White House, Biden’s popularity has clearly declined. Polls show that only 42 percent of Americans are satisfied with their president. Midterm elections are scheduled for November this year, and it is not inconceivable that Democrats will lose their slim majority in Congress.
