DeLorean’s return. The reborn manufacturer has pulled the curtain on the Alpha5, the first new model since the DMC-12. Alpha5 is fully electric and is above all not a modern interpretation of the car made famous thanks to, among other things, the Back to the Future films.
The DeLorean Motor Company has released the first images of the interior and exterior of the Alpha5. The Alpha5 is a completely new all-electric model that the company has incorporated design elements from the DMC-12. Of course, DeLorean cannot ignore references to the DMC-12. For example, the company reports that the Alpha5 should be able to sprint from a standstill to 88 mph (142 km/h) in 4.35 seconds. In the Back to the Future movies, 88 mph is the speed at which a DMC-12 flashes to another time.
This isn’t the only information we know about the new DeLorean. The Alfa 5 is a 5-meter GT coupe with a wheelbase of 2.3 meters. Like the DMC-12, the Alpha5 has gull-wing doors and the signature LED light on both the front and rear shows small nods to the new DeLorean predecessor. The Alpha5 is expected to launch from a standstill to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.99 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h. The Delorean Alpha 5 You will also receive a minimum 100 kWh battery pack, which is good for a range of over 480 km. By comparison, the DMC-12 had engines that were more modest due to the conditions with a 132-horsepower V6.
Unlike the DMC-12, the DeLorean Alpha5 can accommodate up to four passengers. The interior of the Alpha5 also looks completely updated. We see a relatively simple interior with digital instruments and a vertical infotainment screen integrated into the central tunnel.
