There's a very slim possibility that legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu, who's almost 65 and is known for a lot of Final Fantasy music, will be responsible for the game's entire soundtrack again. He made this clear during an interview about Merregnon: Heart of Ice, his latest symphony.
“As far as Final Fantasy is concerned, I'm still involved in writing the main themes for the games,” says Uematsu. “But I don't think I'll be composing music for a full game anymore.”
Uematsu points out the physical and mental effort it takes to compose an entire soundtrack, saying he simply isn't fit enough to do it anymore. “You have to give everything for two or three years, and I don't think I have the physical or mental strength to do that anymore.”
Uematsu says he prefers to spend his “leftover time” on projects he really loves, such as tracks like Merregnon and his band Uematsu Nobuo conTIKI.
Uematsu was the sole composer for the first nine Final Fantasy games, but others have been added since then. He created the main theme for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, while the entire soundtrack is the work of various composers.
Uematsu's last full soundtrack was for Fantasian, a mobile RPG exclusive to Apple Arcade. Hironobu Sakaguchi, the Final Fantasy creator who created Fantasian, previously announced that the game's soundtrack would likely be the last for Uematsu, who has been dealing with some health issues.
