Maya Hawke, 25, admitted she more or less owes her role in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood to her famous parents. This is what the 25-year-old actress, the daughter of actor couple Ethan Hawke (53) and Uma Thurman (54), says in an interview with The Times.
“It was never my intention to suggest that I did not get this role for reasons of nepotism.”
“They later made fun of me for photos of me saying on the red carpet that I had auditioned,” says Maya. “It was never my intention to suggest that I didn’t get the role for reasons of nepotism.” “I think that’s definitely the case,” she explains.
Hawke finds it “complicated” whether so-called baby boomers, people who owe their careers to famous parents, “deserve” to be in the spotlight. “There are a lot of people who deserve to live a life like this but don’t. I think I would feel good if I didn’t deserve it and did it anyway.”
“When I first started, I had two options, one of which was to change my name and get a nose job and go to open auditions,” concludes Maya, who has made a name for herself in recent years with her role in the hit Netflix series Weird things.
