More than 2,500 international flights were canceled again in the US, and more than 7,000 were delayed

This is evidenced by data from tracking website FlightAware on Monday morning (around 1am Belgian time). The cancellations and delays were due to the advanced omikron variant of the coronavirus and severe weather in the eastern United States.

US airline SkyWest canceled 544 flights and saw 497 flights delayed. US low-cost airline Southwest Airlines had the largest number of delays with 1,621 flights affected, and 429 canceled. JetBlue, another low-cost airline, has delayed 41 percent of its flights (409 flights).

At United Airlines, this was the case for 32 per cent of flights (684). Delta Air Lines counted 629 flight delays and American Airlines already registered 573 delays on Sunday. More than 15,000 flights around the world were canceled on Sunday, and more than 4,000 were delayed.

A winter storm, moving into the eastern United States, plays a role in cancellations and delays. The omikron type of coronavirus leads to many sick people and mandatory quarantine among aviation personnel. More than 1,000 flights to and from the United States are expected to be canceled on Monday. More than 13,000 international flights have been canceled in the US since Christmas Eve.
