Remedy Entertainment has announced that it is working on a remake of Max Payne and Max Payne 2. Both games will be released as a bundle for Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation 5 and PC.

The new versions use Remedy’s Northlight engine, which was also used in Quantum Break and Control. By the way, Max Payne and Max Payne 2 will not appear in the near future, because, according to the developer, both titles are still in the concept development stage.
“We were thrilled when our old friends at Remedy contacted us about recreating the original Max Payne games,” said the Rockstar founder. Sam Hauser in a statement† “We are so impressed with the work that the Remedy team has created over the years, and can’t wait to play these new releases.”
“Max Payne has always held a special place in everyone’s hearts at Remedy and we know that millions of fans around the world feel the same way. We are excited to once again collaborate with our partners Rockstar Games for the opportunity to recreate the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games for players in new ways” Remedy CEO Tero Virtual said.
Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two bought the rights to Remedy in 2002 for $34 million. Remedy developed the first two Max Payne games, which were released in 2001 and 2003. The games at the time were praised for their groundbreaking visual effects, including the use of the time-lapse effect.
The game’s development budget will be funded by Rockstar Games, and its size will be in line with a typical Remedy AAA game production. Under the agreement, Remedy will have an ownership opportunity after Rockstar Games recover its development, marketing, and other costs associated with distributing and publishing the game.
