Former US President Donald Trump stymied the national response to the coronavirus pandemic to achieve his political ends in “one of the greatest leadership failures in US history.” This is according to a recent report by the US Parliament.
The 46-page report was prepared by a congressional subcommittee headed by Democrats. It states that Trump and his supporters regularly ignore or silence health experts to conform to his whims or political interests.
“Trump administration officials have engaged in a worrying pattern of political interference in the response to the pandemic and have failed to respond to early warnings about the looming crisis,” the report said.
The Trump White House says it has failed to take the necessary precautions to limit the spread of the coronavirus and national efforts to obtain medical supplies have failed.
The former president also espoused “disinformation campaigns,” including one suggesting that the virus be allowed to spread freely in the hope of achieving herd immunity.
