Netherlands cricketers pulled off a stunt on Tuesday as they beat South Africa in the World Cup in India. Coach Ryan Cook’s team, ranked No. 3 in the world, won by 38 runs in Dharamsala.
The Netherlands batsmen had a rough start against South Africa. However, captain Scott Edwards turned things around with 78 and Rolof van der Merwe and Aryan Dutt contributed with 29 and 23 respectively as the team posted 245 for 8 batsmen in 43 overs. The total number of overs in the match was reduced to 43 due to rain earlier.
Batsmen
South Africa lost a few batsmen quickly but came back into the contest with David Miller’s 43. In the 43rd over, the Netherlands collected 207 runs for the last batsman. Logan van Beek dismissed three batsmen, Paul van Meegeren, Rolof van der Merwe and Bas de Leete with two each.
Earlier, the Netherlands lost to Pakistan and New Zealand in the World Cup. A total of ten countries participate in the World Cup, all of which play each other once. The top four will qualify for the semi-finals in mid-November. The Netherlands’ next match is against Sri Lanka on Saturday 21 October. (AP)
