The Knights of the Old Republic still have a long way to go

Now that Saber Interactive has parted ways with publishing giant Embracer Group, you might think that the development of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake would gain some momentum. Nothing could be further from the truth, because the project still appears to be in the fridge.

The new edition was announced in 2021 with Asper at the helm. In August 2022, the project was removed from the studio and transferred to Saber Interactive, but the status of the game is currently unknown. A digital meeting was recently held with Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors. The man referenced the remake several times, but only referred to the game as the “licensed game.”

When asked if the remake would be released in the next 12 months, Wingefors remained quite vague. For example, he noted, “These types of games should have a lot of love and respect, so without being specific, launch is still a bit far away.”

Who now owns the rights to the game? This is also unknown, although it appears that both Embracer and Saber Interactive still own the title. Although the deal between the two parties is also intended for Bloomberg's Jason Schreier the story A mystery ensued.

When Wingefors was asked who was in charge of the game, the Embracer CEO declined to comment further.
