Despite the pressure, things still went wrong for the United States. Defender Tierna Davidson wanted to clear the ball from her own sixteen, but she did not see substitute Rose coming in and kicked the Canadian across the leg.
Referee Katrina Monsool initially did not whistle this time, but kept the ball in place after VAR’s intervention. Midfielder Jesse Fleming was cool from eleven meters and substitute Adrian France fired the last ball firmly.
