A 27-year-old man from Middelburg was seriously injured at the end of the afternoon in a stabbing in Vlissingen (Zealand) in the Netherlands. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Rotterdam. Hours later, the Antwerp police arrested one of the suspects.
The stabbing occurred around 5:45 p.m. in Korenplummann. Perhaps there was an argument. Eyewitness Maurits van Lowe saw the injured man sitting on the wall. “I saw a large handle of a knife that was still in his head,” he told our colleagues from Provenciale Zeeuwse Courant (PZC). “But he can still call his mother.”
Emergency services, including a shock helicopter, were alerted. Because the casualty could not be transported in a lying position, he did not go with the helicopter. So the man was taken by ambulance, and the emergency doctor also drove him.
Police cordoned off the site of the stabbing for a distance of 300 meters. Forensic medicine began an investigation. Witnesses are required to report.
The local police in Antwerp arrested a person around 7.30pm. He was allegedly involved in the appeal. The car he was in was seized for investigation. Antwerp is only an hour’s drive from Vlissingen.
