Two researchers from the University of Groningen join a select group of young leading scientists

Next year, Dr Else Starkenburg and Professor Dr Lisa Herzog, both at the University of Groningen, will join the Young Academy (DJA) of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).

Each year, the DJA selects ten new members from among researchers who received their Ph.D. less than ten years ago. Membership lasts for five years. The official installation of new members will take place on March 22 next year.

Starkenberg works as a staff member at the Kapten Institute for Astronomy at the University of Groningen. There she investigates the early history of the Milky Way and surrounding galaxies. Herzog works at the Faculty of Philosophy and the Center for Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Groningen. She studies and publishes on issues such as democracy in the workplace, professional ethics and the role of knowledge in democracies. Other topics close to her heart are diversity and multidisciplinarity.

The Youth Academy is a platform within KNAW where senior young scientists with an innovative vision in science and science policy organize activities for various target groups in science, society, and multiple disciplines.
