The United States is going to exempt some of the sanctions imposed on Russia. Some restrictions are reduced, especially with regard to telecommunications services.
Governments in Europe and the United States in particular are rapidly increasing their sanctions against Russia, but some previous restrictions on telecommunications applications have been re-measured this week. This is especially true of software, hardware and IT technology services provided by US companies for communication. Under the current system, US companies are not allowed to provide software, hardware and other services to Russia. Exceptions are now being made to certain telecommunications applications.
It’s about a very limited number of services, with a whole series of rules attached. For example, US companies are not allowed to provide those services to the Russian Central Bank and some other financial institutions in the country. The U.S. government has not said why the ban was lifted, but it appears to be a way to ensure that Russians are not completely cut off from Western news sources and social media.
