Peter Verbeke has been sporting director for a while now RSC Anderlecht. He is increasingly trying to make his mark in Anderlecht and he also has his own way of working.
“I am really looking forward to Monchi, the sporting director of Sevilla,” Verbeek reveals in Sports/Football Magazine. “He walks in tracksuits between the players, he knows what’s going on in a group and he’s close to his coach. I do the same, but on my way.”
For example, Verbeke is also present during medical exams for a potential new player. These physical exams can sometimes be the deciding factor in the transfer process. “If the tests weren’t good or when I noticed they weren’t happy, then it’s done for me,” Verbeke reveals.
“I have turned down enough players for this reason. But they know in advance because I give the instructions clearly in an email or via WhatsApp: if the tests are not good, there is no deal. I think this is an essential part of the recruitment process, especially in terms of physical football that we bring.”
