Volvo Cars sold 698,693 cars worldwide in 2021, an increase of 5.6 percent. This was reported by the Belgian Luxembourg branch of the Swedish manufacturer. Volvo Cars has a large plant in Ghent, where the famous XC40 rolls off the production line.
In 2020, 661,713 Volvo cars were sold worldwide. Last year, Volvo sold 293,471 SUVs in Europe (+1.8 percent). The increase was greater in China, especially the United States.
Not entirely unexpectedly, sales of electrified Volvo have increased dramatically. “Sales of rechargeable models grew by 64 percent in 2021 compared to 2020. Rechargeable vehicles accounted for 27 percent of total sales in 2021,” the company said in a press release. The recharging range consists of models with an all-electric drive or an integrated hybrid drive.
SUV cars
The mid-size XC60 SUV was Volvo’s most popular model worldwide in 2021, followed by the smaller XC40 and large XC90. For example, a Swedish automaker sold 201,037 XC40s.
In addition to the XC40, factory Ghent is also building the C40, a new model with an all-electric motor, and V60.
