Evenepoel: “I arrived out of time”
In 2018, Remco Evenepoel can be admired on the cobblestones of Paris-Roubaix. Evenepoel engaged the little ones for the marbles until misfortune overwhelmed him.
“I was in the leading group when we approached Camphin-en-Pévèle. There was a gap in the leading group, and then I wanted to overtake the riders in front of me. . . ”
Evenepoel changed bikes and joined the leading group when the Carrefour de l’Arbre appeared. “My tires were at 8 bar, I was double flat front and rear. I never saw the support car again. I did the entire Carrefour de l’Arbre on foot.”
Evenepoel arrived at Vélodrome in Roubaix. “I got there,” laughs Evenbeuil. “They’ll never see me there again.”
