Columbia, — While Congress and the White House have reopened the federal government, the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) is unable to calculate and release the monthly unemployment and employment figures for September 2013 because of the 16-day federal shutdown.

The temporary closure of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics limits DEW’s ability to acquire the national and contiguous state data necessary for calculating and issuing South Carolina’s September employment situation report originally scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 21.

The release will be delayed until the data and systems are available for calculating South Carolina’s unemployment rate and other related economic figures. As soon as a release date has been determined, it will be posted at dew.sc.gov under the News and Information section.
