Looks like the 1991 hit classic Streets of Rage is about to be made into a movie. At least that’s what the movie website Deadline is reporting based on several unnamed sources. The production will be in the hands of dj2 Entertainment and Escape Artists.
According to the deadline Derek Kolstad, creator of the John Wick franchise and screenwriter of the action movie Nobody, wrote the adaptation script for Streets of Rage. Producer dj2 Entertainment is known for producing the films Sonic the Hedgehog and Escape Artists is the studio behind The Equalizer franchise.
Streets of Rage debuted in 1991 for Sega Megadrive, followed by Streets of Rage 2 and 3 in 1992 and 1994. In these side games, you’ll play as a ranger who must outwit several street criminals with their fists and small arms. Streets of Rage 4 appeared in 2020.
It is still unknown if the game will actually be made into a movie and when it should be released. Producer dj2 Entertainment released Sonic the Hedgehog 2 earlier this month and is also filming the popular game It Takes Two. In addition, the company is working on film projects about Life is Strange, Tomb Raider and Disco Elysium. Kolstad was previously associated with projects around Just Cause, Hitman and Splinter Cell.
