Comic book hero Spider-Man broke an auction record. A single page of a comic book in which the superhero wears his black costume for the first time has been auctioned for $3.4 million. Heritage Auctions talks about the most expensive single page of a comic story ever.

Relates to page 25 of the Secret Wars No. album. 8′ from 1984. The photo shows Spider-Man wearing a black and white suit for the first time, instead of his more famous red and blue costume. The bidding started at $330,000, but ended at $3.4 million. Page 24 of the same book went to a new owner at the same auction for 288,000 dollars (about 252 thousand euros). It is not known who the new owner is.
Heritage auctions “couldn’t be happier,” says Joe Mannarino, director of comic book art. The sale, he says, proves that comic book art is “as loved and valued as anything put on canvas.”
The previous most expensive comic book page came from the 1974 issue of The Incredible Hulk, where the superhero Wolverine made his debut. That page brought in more than $657,000 (nearly €575,000) in 2014. Last September, the comic book that debuted Spider-Man sold at auction for a record-breaking $3.6 million (more than €3 million) . It was the most expensive comic book sold at the time.
