Europe and the United States conclude negotiations on an agricultural quota agreement

D.The allocation of this EU quota is the culmination of 2 years of negotiations under the World Trade Organization, with the rest remaining with the EU-27 and part with the UK based on recent trade flows. The deal covers dozens of provisions and billions of euros in trade, including beef, poultry, rice, dairy, fruits and vegetables and wines.

EU Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski said: “I am pleased that we have reached an agreement with the United States, our main trading partner. This Agreement – made in the context of the World Trade Organization – holds the original volumes but shares them. Between the EU and the UK. It provides security and stability to the agribusiness and our markets. I am pleased that this agreement highlights the importance of our trade and economic relations. This is a good sign of our commitment to cooperation between the two sides and the World Trade Organization. I would like to thank my team and our American colleagues for their excellent performance. ”

Once the Commission approves the EU-US agreement, it will be sent to the European Parliament and the Council for Approval so that it can come into force soon.
