Hyundai Ioniq 5 gets a sporty appearance and additional features –

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 was introduced three years ago, and according to Hyundai, now is the time to make some changes. It's subtle in nature, but sometimes it has surprising consequences.

We can't really talk about a facelift, but the Hyundai IONIQ 5 is also being tweaked slightly in terms of appearance. The three-year-old electric car will have slightly different bumpers. At the front, this is especially noticeable due to the slightly larger, thicker raised lip, which has a large gap at the top to make room for the license plate. At the rear, the “diffuser” part has become a little wider, the upper part of the rear bumper is a little more compact and, above all, more empty. The new bumper discreetly changes the Ioniq 5, as it has become 2 cm longer. The roof has also become a little longer, or at least the roof spoiler now protrudes a little. Just below that, there's now the rear window wiper, though we already knew it was coming.

The interior design remains almost the same, but here too something changes. There is a new button with which you can adjust the frequently used function. For example, you can access ADAS settings with the touch of a button to – let's just say – turn off the speed warning. We already know something similar from the Hyundai Kona, among other cars. Furthermore, Hyundai has moved the wireless charging pad for smartphones one floor up and the layout of the infotainment system has been tweaked slightly.

Are there any technical changes in the Hyundai Ioniq 5? naturally. The 77.4 kWh battery makes way for an 84 kWh battery, but secretly we already knew that, and Hyundai hasn't explained what that does in the range. The chassis of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been overhauled, and according to the South Koreans, this should lead to a more comfortable ride and fewer vibrations in the steering wheel. Sound insulation has also been improved.

Finally, also new is the N Line trim for the Hyundai Ioniq 5. This of course follows the introduction of the particularly powerful Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. As you can see in the photo above, the front bumper clearly resembles that of the 650 hp Ioniq.5 N-inspired. Not only that, it features thicker side skirts and rides on special 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, you can count on a sports steering wheel and sports seats bearing the N logo and red contrasting stitching.

It remains to be seen what options are available here in the Netherlands. The updated Hyundai Ioniq 5 will first enter showrooms in South Korea this month, with other markets to follow later this year. Dutch prices will also follow.
