The 80th edition of Gullegem Koerse got Slovak in the Honors List. Martin Svercek (Soudal-Quick Step) won the fair classic after a late attack in the rain. His teammate Yves Lambert came in second place, and Lionel Tamino (Lotto-Destiny) came in third.
At the end of May, tournaments are traditionally held in Gollegem. This year, riders had to complete 17 rounds in this fair race for professional riders, covering approximately 175 kilometres.
The riders were not spared the Belgian spring weather and in the rain a leading group of six riders entered the final: Julien Vermot, Lionel Tamino, Olivier Niessen and Yves Lambert represented the Belgian colours, plus Jensen Plowright (Australia) and Martin. Svrcek (Slo) went on the road.
Soudal-Quick Step was with two men and thus the team could choose to attack. Svrcik started 4 kilometers from the finish and was not caught.
Yves Lambart, a two-time Golgem winner, came second in his region this year.
Gulgym course result:
1. Martin Svercek (Slo)
2. Eve Lambert
3. Lionel Tamino
4. Julian Vermut
