S&S Cycle supplies the new “Crate Engine” for Harley-Davidsons

It is a well-known concept in the United States. Crate Drive: Fully assembled drive block, available separately for plug-and-play installation. like Crate engines They are usually equipped with larger cylinder capacity and more parts, which greatly increases power. S&S Cycle, the American tuning company that is known – among other things – as one of the engine suppliers for the King of the Baggers tournaments, comes with a brand new engine kit.

The latest project, the MK136, was built to replace the widely used Milwaukee-Eight (M8) engine block. This type can be found on Harley-Davidson touring motorcycles from 2017 onwards, and the most powerful HD version has a cylinder capacity of 1870 cc and a maximum power of 93 hp and 160 Nm of torque. The M8 engine block replacement is now available from S&S Cycle in various specifications.

Bigger is better

The MK136 engine block was built from scratch by the tuner. Parts such as crankcases and cylinder heads are produced in-house. The capacity of the two-cylinder engine block is 2228 cc. Two versions of the engine block are available. According to the tuner, the regular version with 475-G camshafts already produces 121 hp and raises the torque to 197 Nm. In the United States, where some states impose very stringent environmental requirements on cars, this concerns the version that can be used on public roads.

In addition to this type, S&S also offers a version with 550-G camshafts. Officially not suitable for public roads in the United States and therefore “for racing only”. Official numbers haven’t been provided yet, but depending on the parts assembled and modification, this should be up to 150 horsepower.
