It will be a very busy weekend on European roads, in France but also in Austria and Switzerland, among other countries. The mobility organization VAB warns of this on Wednesday.

Especially on Saturday it will be very crowded on French roads. After all, there are still plenty of vacationers leaving. In the Netherlands, for example, school holidays begin in the south of the country, which means that soon there will be Dutch on our roads, but also on French roads.

On Friday, traffic will be tough on all the main roads from late morning and very rough in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Difficulties will be exacerbated in the afternoon around major cities due to the influx of passengers and travelers on the weekend. Traffic is still very crowded until late evening. Heading north, VAB expect traffic jams in Sud-Est from the afternoon.

On Saturday it will be crowded everywhere, especially on the A7 motorway in the Rhone Valley. In Ile-de-France, the first delays can happen relatively early, especially on the A10 motorway, even in the afternoon. It will be quieter on Sunday, except for the A7 in the Rhone Valley towards the south.

The VAB also warns of traffic problems due to the Tour de France. It will take place on Friday between Castelnau-Mognoac and Cahors, on Saturday between Lacapelle-Marival and Rocamadour, and on Sunday between Paris La Defense and Champs-Elysées.

The way back

Next weekend will also be busy on the way back from vacation. Problem areas in Austria and Switzerland are the Tauern, Fernpass, Arlberg, Rhine Valley, Brenner, Karawanken and Gotthard routes, as well as the main routes to the Italian and Croatian coasts. The holiday movement to Northern Europe will also be significant.

Those who drive into the Netherlands should also take longer travel times into consideration due to potential drawbacks by farmers. Motorways, runways, the entrance to Amsterdam-Schiphol airport and some border crossings into Lower Saxony (in the county of Groningen), among others, have been blocked. In some cases, this can cause long traffic jams.

Summer holidays in Germany begin in Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. With the exception of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, all federal states are now on summer vacation. Especially on Saturday it is very busy in Germany both ways. It is also busy on Friday afternoons and Sunday afternoons.
