PropertyDutch Queen Maxima will receive her special stamp on her 50th birthday on May 17th. Her husband, King Willem Alexander, also received such a stamp when he was fifty years old.
The stamp brochure “Queen Maxima, 50 years old” contains five stamps. According to PostNL, he will be given an eye-catching layout because the stamp with the black and white image of the Queen is twice the size of the stamps with the color photos. The stamps are interspersed with narrow lines twisted in the colors of the Dutch flag.
The black and white photo is a special image that usually appears in the king’s office. Designer Maud van Rossum viewed the photo during a televised speech by Willem-Alexander and requested permission to use this photo. “It’s a very beautiful and intimate picture,” says Van Rossum. “I don’t think the Queen was pictured like this on a postage.” Color photos by photographer Robin Utrecht.
Máxima stamps, suitable for postage up to 20 grams within the Netherlands, will be available from May 17.
